Getting into or out of my comfort zone?
For as long as I can remember, I have scrolled Pinterest looking for ways to be inspired -- new meals to cook, new pictures to take, new words to love, and so much more. When I became a mom, my search shifted to "easy toddler meals" and "fun activities for one year old." However, as I was searching I realized I was drawn to the photographs of kids in their natural habitat. A little girl in her rain boots watering the flowers, several siblings standing in a dirt road carrying sticks. Looking at those photos, I couldn't help but yearn for the days of summer when I, myself, would make mud soup and scramble up magnolia trees.
That is why I have decided to try and document the childhood of my own daughter, Magnolia, in a unique way. I love the look of film photos, even though we live in the days of 4k and Ultra HD. My goal is to use modern technology to create a sense of nostalgia all while romanticizing motherhood. "Kids these days..." is something we hear far too often. But I've never met a child that didn't love to splash in a puddle or pick a flower. As we grow up, we lose our sense of wonder but that is my favorite element of photographing littles. Adoration of nature is in their nature. The magic of childhood is still there and it needs to be preserved. So I plan to do just that!
